Bomb recovered in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, June 14 Police in Chhattisgarh Tuesday recovered a 25 kg bomb kept under a culvert to target a police convoy scheduled to pass over it later in the day, a senior officer said.

The recovery was made from a forested area of Kanker district in restive Bastar region, some 200 km south of Raipur.

Officials at police headquarters here said that a police search squad detected the bomb in a Maoist dominated tribal area and defused it immediately. The bomb was to target a convoy of police vehicle scheduled to cross the bridge in the evening.

Police seize arms from Maoist hideout in Chhattisgarh

Kanker, January 17 (ANI): Acting on a tip off, regional authorities seized massive cache of arms and ammunition from a Maoist hideout in Bhanupratappur village of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Station House Officer R. S. Thakur said that they acted on a tip off and recovered the arms from a nearby forest. The Maoists have spread into rural pockets of 20 of India's 28 states. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has termed them as India's gravest internal security threat.

Arms seized from Maoist hideout in Chhattisgarh

Security forces seized massive cache of arms and ammunition from a Maoist hideout in Chhattisgarh's Bhanupratappur village on Sunday.

"We got the information that four guns were kept somewhere in the nearby forest covered with wild grass. After getting this information security forces along with the Border Security Forces went there immediately and recovered the arms,' said Thakur.

BSF and state police arrest six Maoists in Chhattisgarh

n Chhattisgarh, six suspected Maoists including a woman have been arrested in Kanker district.

Talking to PTI, the police said that the accused were arrested during a seize in the forest area near Nivra and Gotia villages, under the Raoghat station area, by a joint team of the Border Security Force and state police.

Many cases, including those of firing at police personnel and attempts to murder, have earlier been registered against the accused.

Chhattisgarh tightlipped over security forces vacating schools

Raipur, Nov 19 (IANS) A day after the apex court asked the state government to remove security forces from schools, Chhattisgarh Friday chose to remain tightlipped about when it will begin the process.

'It's a very complex issue and I can't comment on it... vacating these schools needs a lot of thought,' a senior official at the police headquarters who co-ordinates anti-Maoist operation in the state, told IANS.
