Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the efforts of Chhattisgarh government in eliminating the practice of open defecation from the state. Speaking at the launch of Smart Cities Mission and AMRUT Mission here at Vigyan Bhawan, the prime minister said Chhattisgarh, which is fighting Maoist menace, was making an all out effort to make the state free from open defecation. He said that the state government has done a commendable work by ensuring that each and every house in the state gets a toilet and sought replication of best practices from across the country.
Third phase of the state-wide Vikas Yatra-2013 kicked off with Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh's visit to village Mohandi of Dhamtari district and then District Headquarters Gariaband on Wednesday afternoon, despite the scorching heat and rising temperature. Massive public gatherings were organized at both the places, during which inauguration and 'bhumi-pujan' of development works worth a total of Rs 73.21 crores was done. On the occasion, power substation of capacity 132/33 KV constructed at estimated cost of Rs 18 crores in Mohandi was also inaugurated.
