Third phase of the state-wide Vikas Yatra-2013 kicked off with Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh's visit to village Mohandi of Dhamtari district and then District Headquarters Gariaband on Wednesday afternoon, despite the scorching heat and rising temperature. Massive public gatherings were organized at both the places, during which inauguration and 'bhumi-pujan' of development works worth a total of Rs 73.21 crores was done. On the occasion, power substation of capacity 132/33 KV constructed at estimated cost of Rs 18 crores in Mohandi was also inaugurated.
A 'Zila Utsav' will be organised on Friday to mark the First anniversary of newly-constituted district Gariaband. The programme will be held at Gandhi Maidan from 11 am onwards. it is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh will dedicated and will also lay the foundation stone of development works worth almost Rs. 73 crore to mark the occasion. As per the instructions of State Food and Civil Supplies Ministe Punnalal Mohale, an exhibition depicting the development of the district will be held by the chief governmental departments.
State Home, Jail and Cooperatives Minister Nankiram Kanwar on Sunday visited block headquarter Mainpur in the newly constituted Gariaband district. The minister also distributed malaria preventive Homeopathic medicines to the Mitanins of the health department for distribution of this medicine among the villagers. The District Collector Dileep Wasnikar and Senior Homeopath Dr. Hingora were also present.
Topping the list with 188.5 per cent, Gariband along with 12 district of Chhattisgarh have received rainfall in excess than the annual average whereas 9 other district have recorded rainfall below the annual average during June 1 to September 1. Meteorologist opined that possibility of rain is still prevailing, so the districts, which have received below annual average rainfall, could get more of the downpour that will raise their annual average.
In a major incident on Tuesday late evening development, Public Works Department Minister Brijmohan Agrawal placed six erring officials of Bridge Division, PWD, under suspension after an under construction bridge situated at Kumhadai ghat on Telnadi in Jhakarpara with in Deobhog block of Gariaband district collapsed on Monday.
Raipur: After a peaceful four-month period in Gariaband area of the state, the Maoists ambushed the policemen on Wednesday. The firing between the police and the Maoists continued for about an hour. Two policemen got injured in the incident and have been admitted to Dr Ambedkar Hospital. There is no report of any Maoist getting injured in the incident.
According to the police spokesman, the Maoists attack in the early morning hours. He said that the search team of the police were returning from its patrol.
