Expressing concern over the declining rupee, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh insisted over the need of better financial management on part of Central Government. These are the signs of recession, which will result in inflation and adversely affect the life of common people in the country. Centre should take serious steps to avert the same, said Dr Singh while addressing the concluding session of 54th annual convention of Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries today as Chief Guest of the occasion.

CM distributes loans to State small-scale women entrepreneurs

Taking initiative for the women empowerment, Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh allocated loans to small-scale women entrepreneurs here at Swadeshi Bhavan on Tuesday. About 4357 entrepreneurs were benefited under the scheme organised by Sangwari Foundation. Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Singh said that the loan allocated to the women under the scheme will make them self-sufficient. The State Government is eying for the upliftment of women.

Ash dam damaged, NTPC's production from plant hit

KORBA: For nearly a month, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh , Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa are coping with reduced power supply after a damaged fly ash dam in Korba grounded power generation at four units of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

In Dhanras village, not too far from the NTPC's Korba power station, a bleak wasteland of grey extends in an endless and forbidding expanse above the village. Here, a maze of pipelines disgorges slurry saturated with fly ash over 4.5 sq km of raised ground enclosed within high embankment walls.

NTPC to invest Rs 3,300 crore to expand capacity at Chhattisgarh

SIPAT, CHHATTISGARH: Country's largest power producer NTPC plans to invest about Rs 3,300 crore to expand capacity of its existing power project at Sipat in Chhattisgarh. The company is exploring possibility to set up a 660-mw power-generating unit at the site, its regional executive director for western region II SN Ganguly told reporters on Thursday.

The proposal, if implemented would increase the generation capacity of the Sipat power station to 3,640-mw. NTPC is undertaking capacity expansion at most of its power stations for optimal utilisation of land.

NMDC in striking range of buying coal mines in US, Russia

State-owned NMDC, which today struck a deal to acquire 50% in Australia's Legacy Iron Ore for AUD 18.89 million, is within the striking distance of acquiring one coking coal mine each in the US and Russia.
"It is in the final stages...We are almost there (of reaching an agreement for the two mines in US and Russia), NMDC Chairman Rana Som told reporters here.
He added that "for the mine in US, we will decide in maximum three weeks, while for the Russian mine, it would take about 3-4 weeks."

ABB secures $71m substations contract in India

Power and automation technology group ABB has secured an order worth $71m from Steel Authority of India to supply a substation package for the Bhilai Steel Plant located in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.

The company will design, supply, install and commission these new high voltage substations, which will enable the additional power supply needed to support a planned increase in the steel plant's annual production capacity.

Chhattisgarh govt slams legal notice to Jindal Group on coal royalty

Jindal Group, the single largest private investor in Chhattisgarh, had been served notices by the state government to pay the due royalty on coal that it had been mining in Raigarh district.

While the Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) had to pay about Rs 10.64 crore, the government had to recover Rs 7.48 crore from the Jindal Power Limited (JPL).
