9 new districts in Chhattisgarh

Nine new districts will be created in Chhattisgarh and they will start functioning from January next year. Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, while taking part in Independence Day celebrations, said the move will help bring the administration to people.

With the new additions, the total number of districts in the state is now 27.

The Congress, however, demanded that at least 11 should be created instead of just nine. The new districts are Sukma, Kondagaon, Gariyaband, Baloda Bazaar, Mungeli, Balod, Bemetra, Surajpur and Balrampur.

Raipur, Aug 15 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today announced creation of nine new districts that will come into effect from 2012.The chief minister announced new districts of Sukma, Kondagaon, Gariaband, Balaudabazar, Balod, Bamtera, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur, thus taking the total number of administrative districts in the state to 27, at the Independence Day parade here.The Raman Singh government had in year 2007 declared Narayanpur and Bijapur as new districts.

Good response to population control fortnight in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Aug 6 (PTI) Over 20,000 vasectomy and tubectomy operations were conducted in Chhattisgarh during the population control fortnight, official sources said today.During the fortnight - July 11 to July 31 - special camps were organised at district hospitals and primary health centres in the state. As many as 18,390 women and 1,866 men underwent surgical operations as part of population control methods, they said.Last year, only 3,000 such operations were conducted during the fortnight, the sources said.

4 programs for STs in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Orissa

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) The Tribal Affairs Ministry is running four centrally-sponsored programs for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Orissa, government said today.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Mahadeo Singh Khandela said, "Post matric scholarship for ST students, hostels for boys and girls, establishment of Ashram schools in sub-plan areas and research, mass education and tribal festival are some of the schemes for welfare of tribals."

Govt approves two highway projects worth Rs 2,330 cr

NEW DELHI: The government today gave its approval to two highway projects worth over Rs 2,330 crore covering Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Kerala, with a view to expediting the infrastructure work in these states.

This includes the project for development of four laning of 150 km long Chhattisgarh-Orissa Border - Aurang section on National Highway-6 in Chhattisgarh under NHDP.

The total project cost is estimated at Rs 1,548 crore and covers the Districts of Raipur and Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh, an official statement issued after the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, said.
