Unhealthy approach hits Millet

Millets remain restricted to consumption by diabetics for good health. A fact which was voiced by the experts at the Eastern India Convention on Re-imagining Agriculture was held at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here.
“We can witness marginalisation of millets these days. People consuming millets are looked down upon but when the same cereal is processed as energy supplement, people attach high value to it,” said Suman Sarkar from the Centre for Sustainable Development.

Chhattisgarh: Essar channelised money to Maoists

The Chhattisgarh government admitted Friday that Essar Group had handed over Rs.15 lakh to a local contractor in the state to pass on to Maoist rebels.

"As per the first information report (FIR), Rs.15 lakh amount was provided from Essar company side to a contractor, B.K. Lala on Sep 9 to hand over to Lingaram Kodopi at a weekly market at village Palnar in Dantewada district," Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar told the state assembly in a written reply.

SC-ST Commission summons college dean again, Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Commission (SC-ST Commission) had summoned the college dean by December 13.

Dean of Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Evam Jan Sanchar University Dr DN Verma had been summoned to appear before the commission by December 13 with a response on the complaint of a student. The dean, however, failed to appear before the commission. He has now been given the time of a week to appear with his explanations.

The commission has reprimanded the dean for the delay and said it will be bound to take strict actions if he fails to meet the deadline again.

BJP bracing for tough Winter Session: Chhattisgarh

With the Congress planning to bring in a no-confidence motion against the Chhattisgarh government on grounds of corruption, the state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is bracing for a tough winter session of the assembly beginning Thursday.

The BJP, which has been in power since December 2003, has called for a meeting of its party legislators Wednesday night to devise a strategy to counter the opposition Congress' charges.

Congress sources said party members will target Chief Minister Raman Singh and his key ministers for "failures of the BJP government on all fronts".
