Center wants to make women economically strong, Verma

Show of strength by OBCs for 27% quota in State

Around 40,000 OBCs (Other Backward Classes) from various organisations, across the State participated in the mega rally organised at Outdoor Stadium in Raipur on Monday under the banner of Chhattisgarh Rajya Pichhda Varg Kalyan Manch, a platform that represents around 35 castes notified under the OBC category. The OBCs through the rally tried to draw the state government's attention towards their 21-point demands including at least 27% reservation, immediate recruitment to the backlog posts and facilities to OBC students equal to students of other communities.

Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh on Monday constituted a high-level committee to look into the demands of OBC delegation of resolving the issue through dialogues. The committee that would examine the OBCs' demands include agriculture and Labour Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu, Panchayat and Rural development minister Hemchand Yadav an Assembly deputy speaker Narayan Chandel. The committee would hold discussion with the OBC members every one-two months on their various issues, said the Chief Minister after his meeting with the OBC delegation on Monday evening.

PMGSY Funds for Chhattisgarh not withheld, Ramesh

Union Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has stated that his Ministry has not blocked any funds for works under 'Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana' (PMGSY) being allocated to Chhattisgarh for the construction of roads in rural areas. Talking to some local jornalists while enroute to New Delhi after visiting Kalahandi district in Odisha on Sunday evening at Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur, Union Minister Jairam Ramesh even denied having issued any letter to the Chhattisgarh Government threatening to withheld funds under PMGSY.

Addressing the gathering of thousands of people during the 'Sant Samagam' on the ongoing Rajim Kumbh 2013, Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh announced to establish a new honour after the name of 'Mata Kaushalya', the mothers of Lord Rama. The announcement came just after Famous Poet Sant Pawan Diwan made a request to Dr. Singh on the occasion. Chief Minister added that the honour, every year, would be given to the selected persona during the Rajim Kumbh fair.

Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh, on Sunday, dedicated for public use the Rs 20.73 crore worth anicut built on the Mahanadi river. The anicut built on the confluence of three rivers would also prove useful for devotees at the annual fair and other general purpose. The 536 meters long anicut has a total of 51 gates with 20 lakh cubic meters capacity. Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh also performed the bhoomipujan for the Dharmshala constructions in Rajim that would be named after Bhakta Mata.
