State government will establish blood banks in thirteen districts of the state within a month. State Health Minister Amar Agrawal has directed the health department officials in a review meeting to make all the necessary arrangements in this regard. The minister informed that the blood banks will be started in Jashpur, Narainpur, Bijapur, Kondagaon, Sukma, Balrampur, Surajpur, Janjgir-Champa, Mungeli, Bemetara, Balod, Gariaband and Baloda Bazaar districts within a month. It may be mentioned that the state health department is presently running blood banks in sixteen districts. While Raipur and Bilaspur districts have two banks each, Raigarh, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Durg, South Bastar (Dantewada), Bastar (Jagdalpur), Surguja, Koriya, Korba, North Bastar (Kanker), Kabeerdham (Kawardha) and Rajnandgaon district hospitals have one bank each. In order to handle the emergency and complicated child delivery cases all over the state, 75 First Referral Units have been established. These units are in all the district hospitals, three civil hospitals and 45 community health centers. Teams of trained doctors are posted for handling emergency situations like cesarean operation.
