Congress says, Chhattisgarh has become `a hub of corruption'

The Opposition Congress today alleged that the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh has become "a hub of corruption". Speaking in the Assembly on the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against the three-year-old Government, Mohammed Akbar (Congress) said Chief Minister Raman Singh wants Chhattisgarh to become a hub of power, but the state has become a "hub of corruption". Referring to a recent incident where a retired Government employee stabbed an officer at Collectorate here over delay in getting pension, he said this reflected widespread corruption in the administration.

On the first day of the winter session of the Chhattisgarh assembly, the main opposition- Congress today tabled a no-confidence motion against the Raman Singh government, which will come for discussion tomorrow. The House also witnessed a debate between the members of the ruling BJP and the opposition today, about the discussion on the no-trust motion. While allowing permission for the no-trust motion to be tabled in the state cabinet, the Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik informed the House that Congress has moved the motion in the House. He also called for a discussion on the issue.

Alleging rampant corruption and rise in staged shootouts in the state, the Congress Tuesday announced it would bring in a no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Chhattisgarh during the winter session of the assembly.

"The Congress has been forced to bring in a no-confidence motion against the state government as there is broad consensus that the Raman Singh regime has crossed the line whether on corruption, shootouts or farmers' suicides," Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, chief spokesperson of the Congress in Chhattisgarh, told agency.
