Stop diamond firm from mining in Chhattisgarh: Ajit Jogi, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Sep 19 (IANS) Congress leader Ajit Jogi Monday expressed strong opposition to diamond trading firm, B. Vijaykumar and Company, saying the Chhattisgarh government should stop it from carrying out mining in Raipur district and taking away the state's precious stones.

"The company, B. Vijaykumar, has been cleared recently by a tribunal, to begin diamond mining work in Mainpur-Devbhog area in the district. The state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government must move court to stop it from beginning mining work in a confirmed diamond-deposit territory," Jogi said in a statement.

Chhattisgarh unveils plan to boost tourism, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) The Chhattisgarh tourism department Thursday unveiled a plan to boost tourism in the state to encash its diverse natural flora and fauna, cultural treasures and centuries-old architectural wonders.
‘We are promoting our national parks, forests, ancient temples, royal palaces and caves and unique groups of indigenous people as the unique selling proposition of Chhattisgarh,’ Tourism Secretary Subrat Sahoo told reporters here.
‘Come to Chhattisgarh and discover a secret India… India the way it used to be,’ he added.

26 junior police officers lose job in Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Sep 15 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh Government has terminated the services of 26 junior level police officers after a ruling by the High Court related to appointment of Sub-Inspectors in 2007, official sources said today.These officials are of Sub-Inspector and Platoon Commander ranks.The State Professional Exam Board had conducted preliminary exams for selection of 380 Sub-Inspectors and Platoon Commanders in 2006.

MLA’s driver escapes with vehicle, AK-47, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Sep 14 (IANS) Chhattisgarh police have failed to trace a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker’s driver who escaped on Sunday with his private vehicle and an AK-47 belonging to the bodyguard, sources said Wednesday.
Officials here at the police headquarters in Raipur said that Avinash Bhadoria Sunday escaped with a car of Bhima Mandawi, legislator from the Maoist-affected Dantewada constituency and an AK-47 lying in the Bolero vehicle. Officials say the driver is possibly hiding somewhere in Bastar region.

BJP MLA''s driver disappears with car, AK-47 rifle, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Sep 14 (PTI) The driver of a BJP MLA in Chhattisgarh has fled with the legislator's car and an AK-47 rifle belonging to one of his security guards, police said today.Avinash Bhaduria, driver of BJP legislator from Naxal- hit Dantewada region Bheema Mandavi, fled with his Bolero car and the automatic rifle on Sunday night, Raipur SSP Deepanshu Kabra told PTI.The AK-47 rifle belonged to Hemlal, one of the guards provided to the ruling party MLA, he said.Bhaduria had started working for Mandavi only a fortnight ago, Kabra said.A probe has been ordered, police added.
