Three Congress legislators held in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 12 (IANS) Three legislators of Chhattisgarh's opposition Congress party were arrested Sunday evening in Surguja district for leading a demonstration against the allegedly deteriorating law and order situation in the state, police said.

T.S. Singhdeo, Premsai Singh and Ramdev Ram were arrested along with 250 supporters at Ambikapur town when they refused to stop demonstrating on a road on which Chief Minister Raman Singh was scheduled to travel, officials here at police headquarters told IANS.

Sonia's birthday celebration in C'garh runs into controversy

RAIPUR: The celebration of Sonia Gandhi's birthday by Congress party here has run into controversy with the BJP strongly protesting cutting of a tricolour-shaped cake on the occasion, calling it an insult to the national flag.

Local newspapers carried photographs of Chhattisgarh Congress party leader Subhash Sharma celebrating Sonia's birthday by cutting tricolour-shaped cake.

Taking objection to it, the state BJP unit today staged a protest rally and demanded the Congress leaders apologise for the blunder.

Chhatisgarh Assembly: 36 Protesting MLAs Suspended

Thirty-six opposition legislators, were today suspended from proceedings of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly after they stormed into the well of the House over "poor law and order situation in the state."

As the proceedings began, Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey raised the issue of increase in the number of kidnapping and murder cases and said that the state government had failed in maintaining law and order.

Congress MLA seeks CBI probe in boy''s abduction and murder

Raipur, Dec 7 (PTI) Main Opposition Congress today demanded a CBI probe into the abduction and murder of a 10- year-old boy in Chhattisgarh's Sarguja district. Talking to reporters here, Congress legislator T S Singdev alleged that the BJP Government in the state was trying to shield the accused in the case. The victim, Hrithik, was abducted and killed a few days ago. Singdev, the MLA from Ambikapur in Sarguja district, said one of the accused, Pradeep Gupta, had worked for Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morch leader Anuraj Singdev.

Din in Chhattisgarh Assembly; House adjourned for day

Raipur, Dec 8 (PTI) Chhattisgarh Assembly saw uproarious scenes for the third straight day, leading to the adjournment of the House for the day.Main Opposition Congress accused the BJP Government of betraying farmers in the state.Leader of Opposition Ravindra Chaubey said the ruling party has not fulfilled the assurances given to the farmers in its manifesto.Following din created by the Opposition members, Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik adjourned the House for 15 minutes.When the House assembled there was slogan shouting by the Congress MLAs, which forced another break.

36 Chhattisgarh legislators suspended

Raipur: Thirty-six legislators, most of them from the opposition Congress, were suspended from the Chhattisgarh assembly on Tuesday for stalling its proceedings over the abduction and killing of children across the state.

The suspension of 34 Congress members and two of the Bahujan Samaj Party was announced by speaker Dharamlal Kaushik after the slogan shouting MLAs stormed into the well of the house and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh in wake of the recent cases of abduction and killing of children across the state.

36 MLAs suspended from Chhattisgarh Assembly

As many as 36 legislators, mostly from the opposition Congress, were today suspended from the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly after they trooped into the well of the House demanding Chief Minister Raman Singh's resignation over what they said was the deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

As soon as the proceedings began for the day, senior Congress member Nand Kumar Patel raised the issue of the deteriorating law and order situation and mentioned several criminal incidents that had taken place in Ambikapur and Raipur recently.

Chhattisgarh disbands 'H M's special cop squad

Amid mounting criticism from within the party, the Chhattisgarh government on Saturday disbanded the special police squad — known as ‘HM squad’ as it reports directly to state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar — after a series of controversies involving its men.

“I have ordered disbanding of the special police squad, abiding by the directive of Chief Minister Raman Singh. It’s the Chief Minister’s wish and I follow it,” said Kanwar after his return from New Delhi.

In Raipur, calls to disband Home Minister’s pvt police squad

A special team of the Chhattisgarh Police that reports directly to state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar may be wound up ahead of the winter session of the Assembly following a series of controversies involving its men.

Kanwar’s own party legislators have accused the team — it is being called the “HM squad” because it reports to the Home Minister and not senior police officers — of indulging in “extortion” and framing people in cases of bootlegging and gambling.
