Ponds are part of our culture, Dr Raman Singh

Study group from Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini Institute was all impressed with the pond culture of Chhattisgarh state. During their courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, members of the study group said that in their visit to various parts of Chhattisgarh, they noticed one common thing that took them by pleasant surprise was the ponds near every village, which something difficult to find in remote areas of Maharashtra. The study group from Maharashtra paid courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh at his residence on the last day of their 3-day tour to Chhattisgarh Dr Raman Singh informed the study group that Chhattisgarh has a rich tradition of preserving ponds, and it is part of our culture. State Government has constructed various small-big ponds in all Gram Panchayats of Chhattisgarh state with participation of large number of villagers under MNREGA and various other schemes, which has also resulted in increase of groundwater-level and also in agricultural yield.
