Saina Nehwal to be felicitated by Raipur DBA today

India's badminton sensation Saina Nehwal will be honored y the Raipur District Badminton Association in an impressive ceremony to be held at Badminton Hall Sapre School, here on Wednesday. Association's Anurag Dixit said that the Inspector General Of Police, Raipur, G P Singh will be the guest on the occasion. Special feature of the felicitation ceremony will be the interaction between Saina and around 150 badminton players who will try to learn from her vast experiences.

With the inauguration of state's first International Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Chhattisgarh has marked its new identity on the world's sports map. Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh's dream project of hockey stadium worth nearly 22 crores has been inaugurated in District Headquarters Rajnandgaon. This magnificent stadium, spread over an area of nearly 9.5 acres, was dedicated to public today at hands of Governor Shekhar Dutt and Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh.

Winners of the nine sports disciplines, held under the four-day mega State-level School Sport Competition from November 24 to 27, were felicitated in an impressive programme held at Government J R Dani Girl's Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday. More than 1100 students from different schools of 7 Zones- Rajnandgaon, Raipur, Bastar, Surguja, Bilaspur, Durg and Jashpur- participated in the competition.

Birth anniversary of Hockey Prodigy Major Dhyanchand was observed as 'National Sports Day' in Chhattisgarh. In the main programme organized on the occasion of National Sports Day in capital city Raipur, 378 sportspersons, who had won medals for the state in the National School-level Sports Tournament 2012-13, were awarded cash prize, certificates and blazers. Total amount of Rs 58.50 lakhs was distributed as cash prize to the winners.

National Level meet needed for promoting squash in State: CM

National level tournaments of squash need to be organized in the state for promoting the sport and drawing players into it. Squash courts would be developed in the major stadiums being built in the six cities of the State including Rajnandgaon and Bilaspur. This was told by State Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh while addressing the general body meeting of Chhattisgarh Squash Association (CSA) that was held at his official residence on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh said that the ongoing construction work of the very first Astroturf of Chhattisgarh at the cost of nearly Rs 24 crore in Rajnandgaon is on the verge of completion. Soon this Astroturf will be inaugurated and made available for the hockey players of the state. Chief Minister said that over the time, Rajnandgaon has gained immense recognition at national-level as 'hockey nursery'. Hockey is one of the most popular sports of this district. Hence, Astroturf is being developed to support the budding hockey talents in state.
