India-China trade gap widening: RBI chief

Raipur, Feb 8 (IANS) Trade between India and China is surging but the gap is widening in favour of the latter, Reserve Bank of India chairman D. Subbarao said Tuesday

Trade between the two countries surged five times in the past decade while Chinese exports to India are 10 times Indian exports to China, Subbarao told students of the Indian Institute of Management-Raipur (IIM-Raipur) while making a presentation on the working of the RBI.

'It is decisively in favour of China but China is keeping its currency Yuan low that 'hurts' India in some ways,' he added.

Railways still in command

Indian captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi scored a match-high 13 points to power Indian Railways closer to their third straight title in the 61st IMG-Reliance National basketball championship on Sunday.

With the 19-year-old point-guard in charge, Railways registered a comfortable 83-41 win over Chhattisgarh to reach the semifinal at the Talkatora stadium. Punjab, Kerala and Services joined Railways in the last-four stage. Railways’ women, who also have their sights set on a three-peat, trounced Punjab 142-41.
