Chhattisgarh weightlifter to compete in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Rustam Sarang will participate in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from October 10-15.

Rustam, who did not participate in any event for the last six months because of injury, will compete in the 62-kg category.

Rustam's father Budhram Sarang, who is also his coach, said that Rustam had stayed away from weightlifting for a long time because of injury.

He added that Rustam was hungry for success.

Chhattisgarh lad creates Guinness record, twice

Raipur: International athlete of Jump Rope Rajdeep from Chhattisgarh has become the first person in the state to own two Guinness records. In an event held to mark the seventh anniversary of Chinese broadcaster CCTV (China Central Television), Rajdeep managed 117 jumps in just 30 seconds to create the record.

Earlier, on February 21, he had created his first Guinness record. Rajdeep will be arriving in Raipur on August 26.

Also, the Olympic Association is planning to introduce Jump Rope as a demo-sport in the 34th National Games to be held in Chhattisgarh in 2013-24.

Chhattisgarh to host National SuperCross Bike Racing

Raipur: Chhattisgarh will once again host the National SuperCross Bike Racing competition this year. The state was the host of the tournament in 2009 as well. The event will be held on December 3-4.

In 2009 the competition was held at the Science College ground and had specially evoked the interest of youngsters. About 100 bikers had taken part in the tournament when it was held in Chhattisgarh in 2009.

India-China trade gap widening: RBI chief

Raipur, Feb 8 (IANS) Trade between India and China is surging but the gap is widening in favour of the latter, Reserve Bank of India chairman D. Subbarao said Tuesday

Trade between the two countries surged five times in the past decade while Chinese exports to India are 10 times Indian exports to China, Subbarao told students of the Indian Institute of Management-Raipur (IIM-Raipur) while making a presentation on the working of the RBI.

'It is decisively in favour of China but China is keeping its currency Yuan low that 'hurts' India in some ways,' he added.

Railways still in command

Indian captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi scored a match-high 13 points to power Indian Railways closer to their third straight title in the 61st IMG-Reliance National basketball championship on Sunday.

With the 19-year-old point-guard in charge, Railways registered a comfortable 83-41 win over Chhattisgarh to reach the semifinal at the Talkatora stadium. Punjab, Kerala and Services joined Railways in the last-four stage. Railways’ women, who also have their sights set on a three-peat, trounced Punjab 142-41.
