State decides to distribute solar lamps to 13 lakh families and 16.50 lakh students

Chhattisgarh will soon become the first State in the country which is going to discourage usage of kerosene for lighting homes (lanterns) by substituting the same through solar lamps and solar lanterns. The first significant step in this regard was taken by the state government on Wednesday. Taking initiative in this direction, the state government has decided to distribute free solar lamps to 13 lakh families residing in 95 tribal dominated development blocks and free solar study lamps to 16.50 lakh school students. The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday at Mahanadi Bhawan.
