NTPC role in project rehab under scanner

Reluctance of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) management to provide jobs to the project-affected-people has come under scanner with Chhattisgarh High Court issuing notices to the company and the state government seeking explanation.

Rohit's father Bisahu Khare had given away 7.12 acres of land for NTPC's Sipat Power project in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh about 10 years ago. As per the rehabilitation policy, Rohit was supposed to get a job in the Sipat power plant which he did not.

Chhattisgarh tribals displaced due to Maoists

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) The government Monday said that Chhattisgarh is the only Maoist-hit state where tribals have been displaced. Nearly 40,000 people were in relief camps in 2008 in the state.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Tushar A. Chaudhary quoted a National Human Rights Commission's report and said that nearly 40,000 people were in relief camps in August 2008 in Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
