Pratham's seventh Annual Survey of Education Report (ASER) of rural India released on Monday tells a similar tale: rising enrolment but declining attendance, over-reliance on private tuitions, decline in reading and mathematical ability of children in the age group between six and 14. The report was released by HRD minister Kapil Sibal.

Vikram Solar commissions Raipur plant

Vikram Solar, a Kolkata based solar module manufacturer, on Monday announced the commissioning and launch of a grid-connected power plant of 2 MW capacities in Kharora, 38 KM from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
This plant is set up under the Rooftop PV & Small Solar Generation Program (RPSSGP) Scheme of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Chhattisgarh Investment Limited.

The plant has been inaugurated by Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Raman Singh and was presided over by Swami Satyaroopanand Ji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Raipur.

Chhattisgarh Raipur airport cleared of crashed copter

Air traffic was restored at Raipur in the early hours of Monday, a day after a helicopter crashed at the airport during a test flight, blocking the runway and delaying several flights for hours.

"The traffic has returned to normalcy, the runway has been cleared of the crashed helicopter," Anil Roy, in-charge of Raipur airport, told reporters.

As many as 32 flights depart and land at Raipur airport each day.

The Dhruv chopper of the Border Security Force (BSF) had crashed at a height of about 100 feet within minutes of taking off from Raipur airport for a test flight Sunday.

Church help sought for Red zone development

The government is reportedly seeking help from missionary groups, including the Church, in conducting development work in areas plagued by Maoist insurgencies.

“We have asked Caritas, which is already involved in development activities to spearhead the work in Maoist-controlled areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Orissa states,” press reports quoted Federal Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh as saying in a letter he wrote to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Ramesh said Caritas was a social organization and should not be seen as a religious entity.
