The University Coordination Committee (UCC) on Wednesday approved student council elections in-principle. It was also decided in the meeting held at Raj Bhawan under the chairmanship of Governor Shekhar Dutt that the State government will coordinate with the Vice Chancellors of the university on the perspective of Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and decision of the High Court. The process of election will be decided only after the consultation with the Vice Chancellors, the committee decided in the meeting.

In the inaugural session, Chief Minister said that the well-intended innovative experiments done by government and administration, after taking people into confidence, tend to yield effective and positive results. The deaths of several children in the country and the State due to ordinary disease like stomach problem are extremely shameful and unfortunate incidents. Stressing on making children sensitive to health right from their childhood, the Governor expressed the view that this goal can be better achieved by making their families sensitive to health. Agriculture Minister of Chhattisgarh Chandrashekhar Sahu has demanded that the paddy support price should be increased to Rs 2100 per quintal, in his letter to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has drawn the attention of Central Government to the issues of inflation and increasing cost of cultivation from time-to-time. Dr Singh has been advocating and demanding the hike in minimum support price since long, in larger interest of farmers.
At the two-day fourth sub-committee meeting of Central Advisory Board of Education organized today in Bangaluru Karnataka, School Education Minister of Chhattisgarh Brijmohan Agrawal said that special attention should be paid on the education of children in Naxal-affected areas of the country. It is a joint responsibility of Central Government and State Governments, and both should discharge the same with priority, he added.
All Pravate schools of the State are supposed to have their own Scouts and Guides as a part of the extra-curricular activities during an academic year, stated Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal in a meeting of State-level working committee of Chhattisgarh Scouts and Guides convened here recently. Addressing the occasion, Agrawal informed the students participating the Scouts and Guides in government schools will get the uniform.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a symposium on the topic'Think before wasting the food products' was organised by Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) on Wednesday at New Circuit House. on this occasion, CECB Chairman N Baijendra Kumar said that wasting food products should be avoided for getting freedom from hunger problem. "It is necessary for security of humans and nature," said Kumar.
"To ensure availability and supply of quality medicines of low cost to the patients, use of generic medicines should be encouraged and strict ban should be imposed on sale of counterfeited medicines", said Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee constituted by Rajya Sabha to recommend quality control measures for food products and medicinal drugs.
