Contrary to the dominant narrative that areas where Naxalites are strong are where the state has been absent, for the last 100-150 years, there has been a gradual expansion of the state in tribal areas regardless of whether the people want it or not. However, the state has been expanding in the wrong areas. You have an extension of the forest department, the bureaucracy, the patwari and the forest guard. But at the same time there is no state presence in the form of school teachers, healthcare workers and other services.

Padma awards on the eve of the Republic Day

A total of 109 people, including 19 women, have been selected for the Padma awards on the eve of the Republic Day.

President Pratibha Patil approved the awards, including one duo case (counted as one) and 14 in the category of foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs/ posthumous. The awards comprise five Padma Vibhushan, 27 Padma Bhushan and 77 Padma Shri awards.

Security up as Maoists to boycott Republic Day in Chhattisgarh

Security was heightened in Chhattisgarh Wednesday as the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) announced that it would boycott and disrupt Republic Day celebrations, police said.

"Police and paramilitary forces have been relocated to forested areas which are Maoist strongholds and are vulnerable to attacks. Also, extra troopers have been deployed in and around key government installations," a senior official at Raipur police headquarters told IANS.

Collector Yadav inspects preparations

District Collector Dr. Rohit Yadav on Tuesday inspected the preparations for the main function of the Republic Day at Police Parade Ground in Raipur and deployed magistrates to ensure law and other during the function. As per the District Collector's order, Sub-divisional Magistrate Arvind Dixit has been deployed at the state set for the VIPs.

The convention was inaugurated by General Manager of IOCL, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh that was attended by Petrol pump dealers from entire State. In his welcome address Senior Divisional Retail Sales Manager Sanjay Mathur emphasized on the Indian Oil in the retail sector during the financial year and the rights as well as duties of the dealer community as a whole.

Inaugural function marks 150th anniversary celebration of ASI

The inaugural function to mark the 150th Anniversary celebration of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in circle level was organized on January 24th. At the outset, Culture and Tourism Minister, Brijmohan Agrawal inaugurated the function by lighting traditional lamp. Dr. DR Mani, Additional Director General, ASI presided over session convened by SB Ota, Regional Director, ASI Central Region Bhopal. Secretary, State Culture and Archaeology, Manohar Pandey was present as special guest.

Collectors to check misuse of domestic cylinders

Taking a strong step towards checking misuse of domestic gas cylinders, the State Government issued necessary guidelines to all the District Collectors for taking strict action those found flouting the norms. Also directives have been issued to constitute joint inspection teams comprising of officials from Food and Revenue Department and oil companies by the State Government so that misuse of domestic gas cylinders in hotels, dhabas and commercial complex, vehicles etc. can be checked.

Raipur cops raid Panaji offices of mining firm

TOI reported that Raipur police raided the Panaji offices of PVG Exporter and Logistics on Monday morning following an arrest warrant issued by a Raipur CJM.

As per report a Raipur police team from Chhattisgarh first raided the office of PVG near 18th June road and also an office in the Panaji market. The raid lasted a few minutes in the office near the 18th June road, while the raiding team found that the office near Panaji market was closed.
