Irregularities in foreign welfare fund in Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Chharrisgarh

Raipur: On Thursday, the Chhattisgarh government admitted irregularities in the use of a welfare fund provided by the European Commission for purchase of school bags for tribal students in one of the state's most backward districts.

The European Commission's welfare fund of Rs 2,84,39,806 was spent for purchase of school bags for tribal students in Surguja district during the 2010-11 fiscal, tribal welfare minister Kedar Kashyap told the state assembly in a written reply.

Foreign funds to promote Raman image?, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

A European Commission sponsored welfare scheme, which got mired in corruption, has been used to promote chief minister Raman Singh’ image in Chhattisgarh, dismaying the Opposition parties here.

The `5.60 crore programme has been launched a couple of years ago to provide school bags free of cost to nearly two lakh school students in the state.
The entire cost of the scheme was borne by European Commission.

Youth Congress to stage protest demonstration on September 9, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Raipur: On September 9, the Chhattisgarh Youth Congress will stage a protest demonstration demanding their 11-point demands in front of Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha. About 50,000 Youth Congress workers are expected to participate in the protest. Earlier, the Youth Congress declared that it would protest in front of Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha on September 5. However, as the September 5 meet of Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha got adjourned, the Youth Congress also delayed their protest.

The first bout for the Lokpal Bill has been won by the people and Anna Hazare, but it is still early to guess what shape the bill will eventually take. Even while Mr Hazare was recovering from his 12-day fast in hospital, he kept firing missiles directed at Parliament on the right of the electorate to reject provisions in the official bill.
There will be demands on several issues and I think both Team Anna and the UPA, along with the Opposition, have sufficient time to think and deliberate.

38 opposition MLAs suspended in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Aug 29 (IANS) Thirty-seven legislators of the opposition Congress in Chhatisgarh and one from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were suspended on the first day of the state assembly's monsoon session Monday for storming the well of the house.

Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik took the decision when the members ignored his repeated appeals to maintain claim and rushed towards his podium protesting against a shortage of fertilizers in the state this kharif season.

The suspension was for a day and the members are free to attend the rest of the session ending Sep 9.

Anna Hazare's movement reaches Naxal heartland in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh assembly session to be stormy

Raipur, Aug 28 (IANS) The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh assembly beginning Monday is set to be stormy as the opposition Congress announced Sunday it will stall proceedings to highlight the alleged failure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

The 90-member state assembly will have just seven sittings Aug 29-Sep 9.

Raipur shuts to support Anna

Raipur, Aug 27 (IANS) Shutters were down, schools were closed and people from all age groups in this Chhattisgarh capital took to the streets Saturday to support activist Anna Hazare's fast for a strong anti-graft bill.

Roads wore a deserted look and taxis were not operating.

Men and women marched through main areas here raising slogans in support of Hazare whose fast in New Delhi entered the 12th day Saturday.

Students formed a long human chain at Budha Talab area where supporters have been holding a sit-in since day one of Hazare's fast Aug 16.

Chhattisgarh Left parties rally behind Anna

Raipur, Aug 23 (IANS) Left parties took out rallies across Chhattisgarh Tuesday in support of anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, a statement said.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) held rallies in Raipur, Bilaspur and the state's industrial towns of Korba, Raigarh and Bhilai, a statement by the parties said.

Meanwhile, the support for Hazare grew in capital Raipur with school students, traders and government employees joining peace protests in the heart of the city at Budha Talab.

Traders, Students Join Anna's Protest in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Aug 18 (IANS): The protests in support of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare got a fillip in Chhattisgarh Thursday as traders, lawyers and even engineering and medical students joined rallies and candlelight marches.

Civil society members and others are holding protests mainly in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Jagdalpur, Ambikapur besides the industrial towns of Korba, Raigarh and Bhilai since Tuesday morning when Hazare was taken into detention barely hours before he was to begin his fast for a strong Lokpal bill.
