The Supreme Court, in its order of 5 July 2011, finally brought to an end a disgraceful chapter of state opportunism, abdication of responsibility and breakdown: the unprincipled, state-backed Salwa Judum in Chhattisgarh.

But in doing so, the court has also tended to collapse all issues relating to Salwa Judum and the recruitment and use of Special Police Officers (SPOs) into a single incoherent mass, producing a result that throws the baby out with the bathwater. It has, moreover, adopted one among polarised positions that feed, rather than help resolve, the conflict.

Forest, wildlife schools in Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh government has proposed to set up three Forest Schools and a School on Wildlife in different forest circles to impart training to Forest Department's employees, official sources said.

While the three new forest schools to be opened in Durg, Kanker and Saruja forest circles, the first school on wildlife has been proposed to be set up either in Achanakmar sanctuary in Bilaspur or in Barnawapara Sanctuary in Raipur district.

Chhattisgarh PET counseling for engineering colleges begins today

Raipur: The online counseling for over 20000 seats in the 50 engineering colleges in the state is slated to begin on Thursday.

The counseling portal of the technical education directorate will start functioning at 11 am on Thursday.

All the students can register themselves for the counseling from anywhere using internet.

Help centres have also been set up by the directorate so that the students do not face any difficulty in the process.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the City police arrested three youths from Chhattisgarh on Wednesday in a sensational triple murder case at Manpur town in Chhattisgharh last year.

The three youths arrested by the CCB police in City. DH PhotoSiaram Purame alias Prem, 20, Rahul Purane, 20, and Goru Pradhan, 20, all residents of Manpur town, were arrested near a building under construction in Nandini Layout where they were working.

Raipur hospital on alert over fake medicine stock

Raipur: After the news broke out about the use of artificial medicines in many hospitals of the state, the administration of Ambedkar Hospital has become alert.

The officers of the hospital administration have sent a notice to the food and medicine department to make a list of artificial medicines and tally them with those available in the store.

Dainik Bhaskar, two days ago, had exposed the scandal involving sale of artificial and low-quality medicines in the state.

As a result, the food and medicine department have taken samples of 50 medicines, of which 27 failed in the test.

Chhattisgarh DGP shifted out

In a surprise decision, Chhattisgarh government shifted out Director General of Police (DGP) Vishwa Ranjan late on Tuesday and replaced him by Anil Navaney, official sources said.

Vishwa Ranjan who took over charge of police of India's worst Maoist insurgency-affected state in July 2007, has been appointed as director general (DG), Home Guards.

The decision to replace Vishwa Ranjan who is set to retire in March next year, has stumped top police officials Raipur.

The sources added that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's decision to replace Ranjan came when he was on leave.
