Raipur, June 14 Police in Chhattisgarh Tuesday recovered a 25 kg bomb kept under a culvert to target a police convoy scheduled to pass over it later in the day, a senior officer said.

The recovery was made from a forested area of Kanker district in restive Bastar region, some 200 km south of Raipur.

Officials at police headquarters here said that a police search squad detected the bomb in a Maoist dominated tribal area and defused it immediately. The bomb was to target a convoy of police vehicle scheduled to cross the bridge in the evening.

Raipur: Around ten thousand students in the city, who appeared for the AIEEE examination this year, are eagerly waiting for the results, which will be announced on June 7.

The result of the students in the city in the IIT-JEE was below average and now all eyes are set on the AIEEE results scheduled to be declared on June 7.

The results of two of the three major examinations in the field of engineering have already been declared. However, the IIT-JEE results turned out to be disappointing for the students.

Shutdown in Chhattisgarh against Ramdev's eviction

Raipur, June 8 (IANS) Normal life was hit Wednesday in urban areas across Chhattisgarh with offices remaining closed and petrol vends shutting down to protest a police crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev in New Delhi last week.

The shutdown was called by Patanjali Yoga Samiti and was backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which ruels Chhattisgarh.

Roads bore a deserted look in state capital Raipur and industrial towns Raigarh, Bhilai and Korba, besides the state's second most populous town Bilaspur.

Model answers of VYAPAM exams declared


Raipur: Chhattisgarh Vyavasayik Pariksha Mandal (VYAPAM) has declared model answers to the Pre Polytechnic Test and Pre Pharmacy Test which were held on May 22. The answers can be seen on VYAPAM’s official website.

26742 students had appeared for PPT and 6670 for PPhT this year. Dr BP Tripathi, the examination controller of VYAPAM, said that student claims for objection can be made till 5:00pm on June 13. The students will have to be present at the office with proper evidence supporting their claim to get it accepted.

Govt to work on proposal to make education compulsory till class X

The Central and state governments on Tuesday decided to work on a proposal to make education compulsory until class X, a plan that can guarantee 29 million more students free education up to the secondary level.

Following a consensus at the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meet in New Delhi, the Central government has decided to form a committee that will include officials from the ministry of human resource development (HRD), a few state education ministers and educationists to prepare the first draft of the proposal in three months.

Raipur: There are more than 500 villages in Chhattisgarh which are not connected to the power grid inspite of being under mobile network coverage. People living in these areas often have to travel for 10-15 kilometres daily for charging their mobile phones.

Chief Minister Dr.Raman Singh inaugurated a solar powered mobile charging unit at his residence which is capable of charging 10 mobile handsets at a time. The state government is planning to install 50 such units in various remote regions of Chhattisgarh.

ASSOCHAM summit starts today

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) will organized a summit titled “Advantage Chhattisgarh—the Land of Opportunities” here in Raipur on Monday.

The government of Chhattisgarh will be a partner in the event that is likely to see a participation of more than 300 potentials investors, ASSOCHAM officials have said. They added that memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth about Rs 7,000 crore will be signed during the event.
